Road Trip To Chicago

Summer is almost over and it is time for back to school shopping! We decided to take a trip to the Windy City "Chicago" to do some shopping. So we loaded up my Friends Toyota Corolla with all the suit cases we gals would need for the weekend. Funny we had over packed as usual to go buy more clothes!

As we were rolling into Chicago the water pump decided to take a permanent break. Timing couldn't have been worse! But at least it decided to do it close to the hotel. We grabbed a cab and headed off to the hotel to begin a quick search for a Chicago auto repair place to get the water pump fixed.

It didn't take that long and soon enough we were on our way to begin our mission "shopping". We love Chicago it's like a mini New York but not so far. Hitting the pavement popping into all the shops and grabbing some lunch at an outdoor cafe' makes for a wonderful afternoon.

Heading back to the hotel now centrally located within walking distance to everything we freshen up and wander back out to grab some cute clothes like this brown and cream cute as a button outfit for my Tween. Then off to dinner.

Love shopping, love Chicago.

Happy Shopping :)

Tweens and Teens Self Esteem?

Watching the multiple morning shows this morning one jumped out with a guest author of "Operation Beautiful".

The author stated that young girls actually start dieting at age (8) eight. Bulimia, anorexia and many other eating disorders are effecting children at younger and younger ages in today's world.

I have noticed that my "Tween" has become concerned about what she eats. She has even stated at one point that she is a vegetarian! My remark: "where did you get that from?" I corrected her right away and told her I am not going to make separate dinners because at the age of eight you have decided that you are a vegetarian.

We then had the conversation that she is beautiful, there is nothing wrong with the way she looks what so ever. Oh, and the fact that if she is a vegetarian she cannot eat all the wonderful fun things for dessert or some of her favorite foods. She frowned and started to think about it.

We eat very healthy and get lots of exercise. The kids swim on the swim team year round, ride bikes, play golf, tennis and play outside. The fridge in our home is mostly organic or as close to the farm as we can get. I have even planted a huge herb garden that actually started out as a small one but the herbs have even taken over the yard! Hubby has an issue with mowing the grass around it.

So back to my Tween. She does read labels, which is a good thing I think. She is learning what is good for you and what is not. And, that it is okay to eat certain things in moderation. Yes, she eats full fat ranch dressing on her salad.... but a very small amount. She is eating a salad loaded with tons of her favorite veggie toppings. Sometimes she doesn't even use dressing.

I will be reading up on this growing issue and will be posting more information to help bring awareness to you Mother's out there going through the Tween and Teen years!

Happy Parenting!

Salt Water Taffy Candy Tweens and Teens Favorite!

One of the fav's for Tween and Teens during the Summer is Salt Water Taffy! Oh my! We had to pop into every shop from Charlevoix to Boyne City to grab this tasty treat!

One shop in downtown Charleviox has the candy by the barrel. You grab a basket and pick only the flavors you love.

We got some Caramel Coffee, Candy Corn, Banana the list goes on and on.

LOVE IT!

Happy Shopping!

Back To School Tween Fashion Shopping

On a recent trip to Boyne City Michigan we ran across this adorable Tween store. The Bird's Nest.

The photo was taken after we had dinner on Lake Charlevoix watching the sunset. Window shopping while eating ice cream is one of our favorite past times while on vacation.

The next morning we made a bee line to the shop to check it out. Our host's has two girls a Tween and a Teen. They showed us some of the clothes they purchased from the Bird's Nest that were just adorable!

My Daughter who is a Tween has fallen in love with the new hot in colors of green and blue. She is slowly transforming her room as we speak from the fab princess colors pink, purple and yellow to this turquoise blue and chartreuse green.

Love these new looks for back to school :) Stop by the shop if your up North. Cute ;)

Online Game Playing Is Fun But Be Careful!

Online gaming has become a really big deal. Just as big or not bigger than Facebook.

There is no longer any need to hop on plane to Vegas or the local Indian Reserve to stick the coins in the slots. All you have to do now is turn on your computer.

Online slots games and many many others are so easily accessible it can be a bit overwhelming. Make sure you do your home work first prior to signing up and for heaven's sake handing over that little plastic card you carry around in your wallet.

Play to have fun not lose your savings. Playing the online slots can be thrilling and tons of fun as long as you play within your means. Set a limit for you self and or your spouse before starting to log in. If you win wonderful.... remember to walk away. If can't do that then don't even start. Find the slots that don't take money to play if you have no self control.

Most important.. don't let the kids play! This will not do anything but cause trouble. Minors shouldn't play and are not allowed to play. Keep them on the Wii or Nintendo.

There are many different levels from beginner all the way up to VIP. Take the tutorials to learn how to play. This is a great advantage to learning ahead of time before you start.

Be careful!

Be careful and have fun....

Happy Gaming :)

The Hills Is Clearly The Best Reality Show On TV

This was written by guest blogger Sammy Renolds

I love Tuesday nights. Do you know why? If you watch the same show that I do, then you might. I’m referring to The Hills. At first, I thought I would hate it. The only reason I watched it was because my wife talked me into it. She had watched the other reality show when they were all in high school. This is another reason I felt I wouldn’t like it – I wasn’t familiar with the characters. But, I will say that it is very entertaining. And what people underestimate is the quality of the music during the show. It’s very trendy and fitting for the mood of the upcoming scene. If we add all the beautiful women, then that’s another plus. And if you are a woman, then I suppose you would find the men beautiful.

I think the reason people love The Hills so much is because as they’re watching it, they’re dreaming of having that lifestyle. But, some of the people on the show are more likeable than others. For instance, Spencer is not the most likeable person in the world. Justin is a distant second. Come to think of it, the only person I really like on the show is Audrina. I guess I only watch it for the drama between all of them. I love drama, as long as I’m not a part of it. The season is winding down and I’m looking forward to Tuesday so I can sit down, relax, and watch The Hills on my satellite tv. Now I just need to learn how to record satellite tv.

iPretty Wild/i's Alexis Neiers Breaks Silence on Burglar Bunch: "I Didn't Do Anything Wrong"

Part of the Hollywood Bling thefts has come to light... as if you didn't know already! I didn't sorry, 40 something Mom of two children who are not at this age yet!!! I was too busy worrying about their daily lives than to watch the next reality show... but then it was on in the middle of the day. It caught my attention... the scantily clad Sister's... and so on...

The sweet Sister of the new reality show "Pretty Wild" has been convicted or has she?

The "E" reality show which premiered prior to her conviction shows her having to change her wardrobe - to more conservative - for the court.... I started watching thinking is was a younger version of the "Housewives" shows......... only to find out that these young, underage hoochie type gals wanting attention are for sure getting it.

You can read on further from E online for more info:

iPretty Wild/i's Alexis Neiers Breaks Silence on Burglar Bunch: "I Didn't Do Anything Wrong"

All I have to say is "where are their Parents?"

Enjoy or NOT!

Do Not Advertise Your Trip

Guest blog post from Janet Monrad

We are a house full of internet junkies and the one thing I tell my kids is that when we are going away, do not post anything about it online. With all of my children on Facebook and all of their 400 friends, I do not want them telling the world that we are leaving to go on vacation and how long we will be there. Of course, they do not like this and all of their 400 friends are trustworthy (yeah, right!). So, I tell them they can post pictures and talk about their vacation when we get back.

Of course, we also have an ADT Security alarm we set before leaving and we do other things to make it look like someone is at the house. We have timers set to turn lights and a radio on. We also use a timer to turn the back porch lights on. This, we feel, may deter an intruder if they feel they might be seen by others.

We make sure all windows and doors are locked, even basement windows and doors. We make sure to put away any ladders that may help an intruder reach upper windows and any tools that may enable a break-in.

The Country Music Hall of Fame

Guest post written by Marsha Rodas

I recently had family in town that wanted to experience all that music city had to offer. I wanted to feel safe leaving my new home, so I had an alarm system installed and I’m glad I did. Since I have not lived in Nashville very long, there are many tourist sites that I have not been to. One of the sites that everyone wanted to go to was the country music hall of fame. Even for those that aren’t big fans of country music, this site had big appeal. After setting my home security alarm, me and my entire family headed to the museum. I didn’t know what to expect. I had spent a short amount of time looking at the website and knew that there were a few new and exciting displays. I had an aunt that was especially excited about getting to see all the relics of her favorite artists.

I was blown away by everything at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Even thought I am not a huge follower of country music, there were so many items that I recognized on display. There was also a huge amount of information that I found fascinating. It was the perfect way to kick off a weekend in Nashville, TN. The fee to get in was not much at all, and there was something of interest for everyone that was with our group. I was away from my home all day and I felt safe because of my newly installed alarm system.

Off To Buy My Hunter Wellington Boots

I am on a mission to buy a new pair of Hunter Wellington boots. I have been admiring them on other people for quiet some time now.

After spending this wet and sloppy Winter and rainy Spring with no rain boots but some rubber croc's I think it's time to find me some Hunter wellies.

I love the equestrian style look and what's even better now they come in several styles and really cool colors. I may have to just stick with the black they go with everything. Then there is all the cute accessories that go with. Like the wellie socks, some are colored and have fur! Love that! Want that!

If anyone out there did buy Hunter wellies please comment and let me know what style you purchased and love! I could really use the input being a newbie ;) I am very excited and cannot wait to go shopping.

Help me shop ;)

Cupcakeasaurus CD Release Party With Mr. Tom Seley In Birmingham Michigan

For immediate release

‘Cupcakeasuarus!’ brings smart, imaginative rock ‘n roll to ‘tweens

Popular local musician, Mr. Seley, releases second album May 23

Click here: Mr. Seley - Music that kids really like

ROYAL OAK, Michigan.—Kids of all ages are invited to attend the CD release concert for Mr. Seley’s second album, “Cupcakeasaurus,” from 2–3 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at the Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham, Michigan.

The album, which features songs such as, Pluto is a Planet, Stone Age Kid and the title track, Cupcakeasaurus!, builds on Mr. Seley’s past success with Eat Your Books (And Read Your Vegetables) offering kids in the ‘tween years (8-12 years old) a rare mix of age-appropriate lyrics and rock that plays to their sensibilities.

“I wanted this album to be even more rock n’ roll,” says Tom (Mr.) Seley, who also teaches third- and fourth-graders at Birmingham Covington School. “More rock ‘n roll provides more opportunity for audience participation, including parents, and a way for my band, The Troublemakers, to show how fun it is to play music.”

On the surface, the songs are fun, catchy and dance-able. But Seley says he tries to write music that will grow with kids and provides an opportunity for them to use their imagination.

“I always try to respect their intelligence and level of humor. I also try to foster creativity through my songs,” he says. “Kids love to sing along and imagine themselves in the roll of the narrator, which is why I wrote Stone Age Kid. I thought it would be fun for kids to sing that song and imagine that they are a Stone Age Kid, suddenly transported into modern times.”

During the free concert, Mr. Seley and The Troublemakers will play his popular songs while kids and their families sing along.

Seley says he decided to write music specifically for 'tweens when he realized little quality music existed specifically for 8-to-12-year-olds. While younger kids enjoy Raffi, Barney and Sesame Street, once they reach age 7 or 8, they consider this music “baby-ish,” according to Seley.

“Popular music on the radio—with its boyfriend/girlfriend themes—is not yet developmentally appropriate for these kids,” he says. “Third and fourth-graders deserve great music too, so I set out to write songs for this age group.”

Seley, a longtime guitarist and singer/songwriter, has led a sing-along with the kids at Birmingham Covington School each week after school for the past five years. Staff members, administration and students at Birmingham Covington School encouraged him along the way.

Seley aspires to share his music with as wide an audience as possible and continue teaching his third- and fourth-grade multi-age classroom in Birmingham.

1The album will be available on CD at the concert, on his website,

From Baseball To The Superbowl Family Events Start With Love And Ticket America

Summer is here already. Soon school will be out mid June for most of our Children.

Sleeping in late and Family vacations are something everyone looks forward to during the summer time. Some great Family outings are usually in your very own back yard. From museums exhibits to baseball games like the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field offer a lot for Families or Dad and Son day out.

Why not hope over to Giant Stadium and catch an afternoon game watching the New York Giants play the Detroit Tigers. Baseball, hot dogs and apple pie. The famous summertime pastime is still holding it's own even during this slow economy. Most of the venues offer great deals including meals and great seats.

For those Football lovers Super Bowl Tickets are not so far around the corner. It's never to late to start planning your trip. My Husband just finished watching the draft picks the other day! I was so surprised because it's baseball season. He just laughed. I know I said it's a "guy" thing. I'm ever so happy to take my Daughter to the salon to get a mani pedi any day.

Games are fun to go to I prefer baseball, oh and did I mention the Tigers? They sort of have my heart on a string. I love the noise, crowds, being able to shell the peanut's and drop the mess all over the floor ;) and most of all the organ. Which I may add some venues do not use anymore :(

The important thing is to spend some quality time with your children and have fun!

Happy Summer ;)
